MEDIA
High quality wall plaques that keep your news looking great for a lifetime.

That’s Great News was founded in 2003 to market high quality recognition products directly to the end user. They custom make every plaque to order, creating a product that is far superior to traditional simple framing.

The
Situation

That’s Great News found themselves spending excessively on AWS as their database of over 3 million news articles continued to expand. With technical resources spread thin, they sought expert guidance to enhance their storage and archival strategy in AWS, and concurrently reduce costs.

The
Solution

Aligned Technology Group deployed the Elastic Engineering Program to identify potential savings and engineer a robust storage strategy. Specifically, the S3 Storage backend for Oracle Net Suite was proposed, encompassing different storage types and architectures for long-term archival storage and S3. ATG also leveraged the Catalyst program to resell AWS services to That’s Great News for additional advisory services provided for no additional cost.

ATG Expertise, Realized

Cost Optimization

Issue: Small AWS deployment with little management oversight and a lack of cloud skills internal to the organization moving from traditional infrastructure to SaaS and cloud based solutions.

What we did

  1. AWS Audit
  2. Cost Optimization Review
  3. Ongoing Monitoring

Result:

  • Eliminated unused storage volumes and the old application server no longer in use, the charges for AWS resulted in a savings of 51% per month.
  • We’ll continue to monitor AWS billing and finance to ensure maintenance of savings and identify other future changes.
