The Phases of MAP: Navigating Your Journey to AWS

Aug 27, 2024 | Articles, Videos, Webinar

Migrating to Amazon Web Services (AWS) can be daunting without a clear roadmap. That’s where the Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) steps in, providing structured phases that ensure a smooth and efficient transition. This blog post delves into the crucial first steps of MAP: the assess and mobilize phases.

The Assess Phase

The first phase of MAP is the “assess” phase, an essential step where partners gather comprehensive information to understand your current environment and requirements for a successful migration to AWS. During this phase, the partner will:

  • Interview stakeholders to gain insights into their perspectives and expectations.
  • Collect all existing technical documents for a thorough review.
  • Engage in in-depth conversations to understand how your application currently operates.

The primary goal of the assess phase is to determine whether your application is ready for a complete migration to AWS or if preliminary modifications are necessary. This thorough evaluation helps create a detailed roadmap, clearly outlining any required changes and adjustments for a seamless transition.

The assess phase is pivotal because it provides AWS and clients with a clear understanding of what needs to be done. It highlights any “tweaks and changes” that the partner will need to address in the upcoming phases. Importantly, this phase is fully funded by AWS, ensuring that clients get an unbiased, thorough assessment without financial strain.

The Mobilize Phase

Once the assess phase is complete, the journey moves to the “mobilize” phase, where actual preparations for migration take place. In this phase, AWS can cover up to 50 percent of the Statement of Work (SoW), easing the financial burden and facilitating the transition.

During the mobilize phase, the groundwork laid out in the assess phase is brought to life. This step involves initiating and configuring the environment based on the earlier assessment, ensuring everything is in place for a smooth migration to AWS.

The assess and mobilize phases of MAP provide a structured, step-by-step approach to migrating to AWS. By evaluating and understanding your current setup, and then methodically preparing for the move, AWS ensures that every migration is successful and tailored to the specific needs of the client. With AWS funding significant portions of these phases, businesses can undertake their cloud journey with clarity, confidence, and minimal financial risk. Engaging experienced partners through MAP allows you to harness the full power of AWS, streamlined seamlessly into your existing operations.

Embark on your migration journey today, knowing that with MAP, every step is supported, guided, and funded to ensure a successful transition to the cloud.

Cost Optimization

Issue: Small AWS deployment with little management oversight and a lack of cloud skills internal to the organization moving from traditional infrastructure to SaaS and cloud based solutions.

What we did

  1. AWS Audit
  2. Cost Optimization Review
  3. Ongoing Monitoring

Result:

  • Eliminated unused storage volumes and the old application server no longer in use, the charges for AWS resulted in a savings of 51% per month.
  • We’ll continue to monitor AWS billing and finance to ensure maintenance of savings and identify other future changes.
